What is one thing a home business entrepreneur should be constantly working towards?

    January 18th, 2010

We will begin this topic with one assumption, that our home business comprises selling through a website. Meaning we are website owners. In which case, we may want to manage our website ourselves or hire someone to manage it for us. In either option, it is in our interest to know what goes into making our home business a success or what we are paying for to achieve success at it. Internet is full of claims, information, advice and secrets on how to get success with home business. Some self proclaimed as well as genuine gurus are selling info packed in ebooks while some ask you to download videos and guarantee you can replicate their success. What you have to understand is that all these people are selling you the same truth…. “Increase traffic to your site”. Everyone is teaching you the same skill in their own language. This answers our basic question. The internet home business entrepreneurs should be constantly working towards getting more and more traffic to their website/websites. They may use any school of thought that suits them. Do a simple link exchange campaign or pay for links on websites with high traffic. May follow particular ebook guru’s techniques; take tips of SEO website owners…whatever. Anyhow their end goal has to be constant inflow of traffic. Increase in traffic. So home business entrepreneurs, keep this one thing in mind. There are different ways and means available online to reach the same end (I can’t repeat it enough-Traffic is the end goal). Sales and profits will come only if there is traffic. You might be selling the most wonderful product at the most reasonable price, but if its not reaching the right audience, there is little point, you will agree. So work towards traffic, more hits, unique hits and there is no way you will not make a successful home business entrepreneur. Analyzing this traffic is another as important aspect, which we will learn some other time. It’s a topic by itself. A very crucial one at that. May be reading statistics gives you a clue that you run a home business but lot of your traffic is coming from pharmacy sites. It will help you plan your future course of action that much better.

    Miracles are Your Responsibility!

    January 18th, 2010

John Di Lemme on “Miracles are your responsibility”

Miracles are your responsibility! What does that mean?
Simple…You have a responsibility to create miracles in
your own life. The responsibility lies on your shoulders.
You cannot blame anyone else, and you can’t look outside
of yourself for someone else to create the miracles for
you. In this article, I’m going to break down the word
“Miracle”, because each of you have a responsibility. As
you know, my Why is to impact others and change the world
one heart at a time. As you read this today, my goal is
for you to take responsibility and realize that you have
the innate ability to create miracles. So let’s get started!

The letter “M” means Momentum, which is created by you.
You must create Momentum in your life for yourself, for
your Why, for your family, for your success, for your
finances, for your health…YOU create Momentum! No one
else will do it for you. You aren’t a surfer waiting for
the next wave to come in. You and only you must create
your own Momentum to drive you toward creating your Miracle!

The letter “I” stands for Incentive. You must have something
inciting you to action…your ultimate “Why”. Why are you
doing what you are doing? Why do you want to begin that
business? An Incentive builds the foundation that keeps
you focused on your Miracle. No doubt about it! But again,
it is your responsibility to determine what your incentive
is and how it will drive you toward your Miracle.

The letter “R” stands for Revelation. As you read this
    today, get a Revelation! It’s your responsibility…no
one else’s. It doesn’t matter who you are, where you
came from, how much money you have…get a Revelation.
YOU can and will create Miracles!

The letter “A” stands for Action. I know you’ve heard
this before, but read this today, print it out and
decide that you are going to take Action to create
Miracles. Once again, no one will do it for you!
Take the Action that you know that you need to take
    to create your Miracle.

The letter “C” stands for Commitment. Finally…once
and for all…dive right into it…get Committed to your
Miracle! It’s your responsibility. Inside you is a
reason for why you are here…your Miracle…so Commit to
    it. Go for it!

The letter “L” stands for Love. You must Love what
you do. You must Love the Miracle that you are focused
on creating. If your Miracle is all about money…you
will fail! Your Miracle cannot be based on money.
Your Miracle must be based on what you can do to impact
the world, which will produce everlasting results.
You will produce true Miracles! Don’t let anyone else
tell you what you must do for money. Love what you
do and create your own Miracles.

The letter “E” stands for Energy. Your gonna need
Energy to create your Miracle. There’s no such thing
as it “falling in your lap”, “luck” or “winning the
lotto” in a success mindset. It takes hard work!
You need the Energy to take those daily action steps
to create your Miracle. Again, it is your responsibility
to maintain your Energy to create your Miracle.
    Miracle…It’s your responsibility.

    As I say,

You must be absolutely clear about your goal and be relentless
in your pursuit of Your “WHY!”

    Changing Lives!

Core-Principles: The Function of Functional Training

    January 11th, 2010

Okay…okay…okay! Enough already!!! It seems like with every new term, every new invention or just about anything that is seemingly not “Everyday” that we all become flustered and assume we know nothing, which is both a testament to our lack of faith in ourselves and also a reflection of our ever-growing dependence on externals to give us a little reassurance where our natural instincts should be in high gear.

My intention with this article is not to offend anyone especially those that whom, without their continual support I would surely be seeking a new line of work, and yes I am referring to my clients, so please don’t feel like I’m bashing “you” if I ever refer to any particular individuals or events, no names will be mentioned though. Okay so…a while back, a client that I really respect and admire as a person had a dilemma that caused quite a bit of frustration for him and the other party that was involved…his daughter, also a client. What happened (an avoidable sport related injury) was tough on all involved, including myself, which, for me was my integrity as a fitness professional, something that I don’t take lightly and also a profession where in today’s world either has a negative connotation or if viewed positively, “we” are all equally educated and equipped to handle all aspects of fitness when it comes to the customers specific and infinite diversities; be it post-rehabilitation, specificity of sport, special populations or general fitness concerns or needs… All fitness trainers are not “professionals” (imagine that!) nor are they equal in their abilities and hardly ever do you find a fitness trainer with expertise in a variety of different specialties! It takes many years of education, study, application with thousands of delicate intricacies (people are complex) that make us all, well…’us”, minutely distinct. It also requires an understanding of unique differences in personalities and the ability to cope with a multitude of unknown, potential disasters; not to mention…likes, dislikes, opinions, lifestyles, cultures, beliefs and so on… And it’s not just a general understanding of anatomy, physiology, exercise-science or athleticism… It also includes an aptitude in psychology, communication and a deep desire to help others and to serve your fellow man with all that propels you forward…or at least that is what it is to me!

I’m a pretty sensitive guy especially when it comes to my client’s needs and the fulfillment of their needs and when something strikes to the bone such as this particular incident, I become so absorbent of their concerns it usually drives me to really dig deep into myself and hopefully I become a better resource for my clients out of these situations, which ironically if you read on is why I am writing this piece in the first place. The previously mentioned sport related injury of a talented young athlete is what motivated me to put pen to paper, she is very gifted and posses the kind of personality that we desperately need as role models in modern day athletics. But she was injured by a degreed professional and it seemed like there wasn’t anyone around that could see ‘the picture’ clearly: The “DIAGNOSIS”…rehab-therapy mingled with the rigors of hard-core team training…this boggled me; rehab always precedes specificity (sport) training, build, repair and then if recovery is attained, hit the hard-core stuff, plain and simple because re-injury will surely squelch the spirit and possible prevent true talent from ever recognizing it’s infinite potential.

This article is actually on core training or as I’ll title it… Kore-Training, but what is really functional training and not just abdominal/tummy training or training the body from it’s core center of gravity or even training the body beginning with it’s proximal musculature moving outward toward the distal focal point. The big misconception with core training is that it is just mid-section training and all you have to do is some quick crunches or even worse hyperextensions and your “core” will be stronger and leaner. I hear this all the time and it still puzzles me, its one thing for the customer seeking fitness to not be 100% sure what core training is, but a professional should know better! Guess what? Too many fitness trainers, sports and conditioning coaches and other so-called “professionals” have no idea what core training is! In essence it is just functional training and ‘functional’ simply translates to the training of function/daily uses of the body or just training our bodies as they were designed to move. This obviously varies from person to person, athlete to athlete and the specific uses of each and every individual. Now, for a little tech-talk…

If you wanna get down to nuts and bolts, the primary vicinity of the core is called the…are you ready for this? Lumbo-Pelvic-Hip-Complex and in order to enhance the integrity of the core, what we are really doing is developing better dynamic postural control, increasing muscular balance, a greater degree of neuromuscular and bio-mechanic efficiency and building or rebuilding structural endurance and stabilization strength and power. And that’s core training… What does this mean to the layman? Crunches? Sit-ups? No! It means something different to each and every one of us. Are, ab exercises part of core training? Perhaps, if the lumbar region is strong enough to endure these exercises, but usually crunches are performed so poorly that a greater potential for injury will nullify what positive effects the crunches might possibly provide. So, the answer is both yes and no, depends on who is asking and your particular conditioning level, however rather than sticking our bodies in odd looking machines we should use movements that are relative to our activities or our sport or more specifically we should just use movements that keep our bodies free to move through space as we target various muscle groups, and if pondered, it doesn’t take a genius to figure that out. The truth is both the Greeks and Romans trained for competition like this thousands of years ago, not to mention the fact that our bodies have not changed that much biologically, biochemically or physiologically, we are made of the same material as they were then.

Common sense is the key, move our bodies as they were designed to function and allow them to improve through progression and repetition. If we are looking to rehabilitate, repair or strengthen debilitations or genetically pre-disposed weaknesses then my advise would be…consult a qualified professional and by professional I mean someone who has a back-ground in this specific area of ‘application’ or applied expertise: this “expert” should give an assessment and then a prescription of a detailed movement protocol for the individual, what you should be weary of is the “professional” that eagerly dispenses a standardized penciled-in work-out sheet that resembles your…’Free-Introductory-Work-Out’ card at “Jack’s Work-Out Shack”. Also, if any of these “professionals” hurt you… Then, they simply are not “PROFESSIONALS”! Final note, I am adamantly opposed to “knocking” hard working, well intended others of my particular profession as well as those of the medical community, but when injuries are concerned, we should always do our selves justice and seek more than one (1) ‘professional’ opinion…degrees, credentials and “leg-up” opportunities aside…and I know you don’t need me to tell you that.
I, applaud each and every one of you that chooses the right choice, because the right is merely an echo of truth!

Web & Video Conferencing Technology: Five Great Reasons to Start Utilizing Online Meetings Now

    January 2nd, 2010

Several years ago I was in a computer store and a salesman was trying to sell me something, in fact, he was trying to sell me anything that he could. I said that I had the latest computer and really didn’t need anything more. Then he showed me a web camera and I thought for a few seconds, but I really couldn’t figure out why I would need that gadget.

Now things have changed and that salesman could get the sale from me, because the time is right to start conducting online web and video conferences. Here are a few reasons why the age of web conferencing has truly arrived:

    1. Transportation costs are rising and web conferencing is one way to conduct meetings without getting into a car or plane.

Imagine how much money you could save if you were able to hold a staff meeting with your distant branches without paying for fuel, hotels and all the other costs associated with outside meetings?

    2. The cost of conducting a meeting outside a main office is much higher than you can calculate by only adding up the material costs.

When you leave your office or home, you have to put everything aside and subject yourself to delays in traffic, airports, trains and taxis. Sure, you can take your laptop with you, but are you really as productive using a laptop in a busy airport as you are while you are in your own office? Web conferencing allows you to get back to your other work as soon as the online conference ends.

    3. Web conferencing allows you to meet face-to-face with your colleagues no matter where they are.

Globalization is not just a slogan. Business, educational and social organizations are now working in increasingly wider networks which are spread throughout the world. If you have clients, employees, representatives or students in another country or in a distant location, think how convenient it would be to be able to turn on your computer and hold a meeting with them. Well, this is not a distant dream, it is possible right now using existing web and video conferencing technology

    4. Online conferencing allows you to give support and help to clients without sending out a technician or a representative.

If you are selling a product or service that must be supported, then think of the improvement in customer relations and reduction in costs that you could achieve if you could effectively meet online with your client. Today’s conferencing technology even allows your staff to “take over” the computer of a client and demonstrate how an application works.

    5. Video and web conferencing is now extremely affordable, easy to use and very functional.

Gone are the days of proprietary systems and cameras. Today you can use standard PCs and inexpensive web cameras to conduct your meetings. The online meetings do not require equipment or software that is not already found in most offices. In addition, several companies now offer conferencing services at a price that even individuals and small organizations can afford.

If you need to hold meetings, or meet with staff and colleagues who work in far-flung locations then you should consider online conferencing. The spread of online meetings could change the way we all work, just as the widespread adoption of email did fifteen years ago.

    Shopping For DVD Movies

    December 30th, 2009

Technology has taken us from Beta to VHS and now to DVD movies. With each new step of technology, the pictures became more clear, the sound more defined and an improved experience overall. However, nothing has matched the quality of DVD movies. With crystal clear images, incomparable sounds and tons of added features, DVD movies are a hit.

Gone are the days when a movie rental was just a movie. These days, a DVD rental includes not only the movie, but also deleted scenes, cast interviews, commentary and often even a documentary on how the film was made. Video store rentals are excellent, but what if you don’t have a local rental store? No problem. Several big name retailers offer online rentals, which means that a video store is now just a click away. For a monthly fee, online rental companies will allow you to create a wish list of DVD movies that you want to see. They will send a movie from your list and, after you watch it, it is returned in exchange for another selection on your list. This process goes on and on without any additional cost to the customer. The only thing you pay for is a monthly membership fee. So, whether it’s online or in person, a video store is a terrific place to rent Hollywood’s latest hit movies.

If you are looking to purchase a video, the options are equally unlimited. Virtually every retail store has an electronic section in which they offer DVD movies for sale. The new releases are generally more expensive than others so, if you’re on a budget, check out the titles that have been released for a year or longer. You may be surprised at the bargains to be found. Another purchasing option is through a video club. With this type of membership, you simply sign up and select several movies at an unbelievable low price. In exchange for the bargain, you agree to purchase a predetermined number of movies over the next several years. Each month, the video club will send a video catalog and selection card. Be sure to read the selection card carefully because you may have to return it to the company. Typically, a director’s selection is chosen every month and is automatically sent to the customer unless they indicate they do not wish to receive it. A customer can indicate that they do not wish to receive this selection simply by marking the appropriate box on the selection card and mailing it back. Or, often times, customers may indicate their wishes online without having to spend money on postage to mail the selection card back. Video clubs are a terrific way to build a nice collection of DVD movies and they offer terrific deals every month.

If you’re still in the market for DVD movies and haven’t found a video rental store or local retailer, check out one of the many online retailers who offer a wide variety of DVD movies for sale. With the internet, a customer’s options are virtually endless. A never ending sea of DVD movies are just a click away.

A Vital Guide To Selecting The Most Appropriate Pushchairs And Prams

    December 5th, 2009

When you are purchasing pushchairs, it is crucial that you take account of both your newborn’s requests as well as your current lifestyle. Pushchairs today are on sale in countless different forms & price costs, & without carefully looking at the various different choices before you shop; the choices can definitely become unmanageable.

First, you are instructed to understand your toddler’s exact requirements. For a newborn toddler, you probably will require a pushchair with a lie back capability or a pushchair/carrycot combination. If you like you can procure a unit that includes a reversible seat, which allows your baby to look at you whilst you’re pushing. You are also advised to think about where your kid will principally sleep: whether it is a crib, carrycot, or Moses basket. If you plan to procure a carrycot, then you might also need to also procure a pushchair/carrycot combination so that you can reduce the entire amount of kit you will have to acquire.

Next, you are advised to think about your way of life. If you intend taking the pram in your car, asses the size of the boot to ensure that the collapsed pram will go in without difficulty. If you purchase one that is too big, you’ll be spending many frustrating moments each day trying to pack it in the vehicle. Also, you may well look at a multi function model, which merges a toddler car seat and pushchair. This multi function ability will definitely make it very easy for those responsible to transfer your baby in the car, then you can use the pushchair when you are parked, thus minimising the overall number of accessories you have to carry around with your baby.

For mothers who walk a fair amount, make sure you choose a heavy duty product that has lockable wheels as standard. Also think about the type of environment you will be pushing your child over. If you pick swivel wheels, the pram will be much easier to move in tight corners, while fixed wheels will travel smoother over rough environments. You can even buy a pram that has both fixed wheel & swivel wheel options, letting you adjust the wheels as necessary throughout your travels. In spite of what option you go for make sure the handle is at a comfortable height. If you & your partner have completely different heights, try to obtain a pushchair with a changeable handle. Find a range of baby and child products including; puschairs, baby travel cots and twin pushchairs from leading brands online.

Personnel Security: What Is Your Security Posture?

    November 29th, 2009

    1. The Security Consultant’s Perspective…

With Workplace Violence becoming an emerging concern, the employee dimension becomes a critical factor in conducting Vulnerability Threat Assessments against capabilities and weaknesses, similar to the way we conduct a business SWOT (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats). I wonder how much thought a disgruntled employee, angry customer, an armed robber or a specific act of terrorism, has given to the real business threat of a violent act. Within each business or type of employment, there exists an intriguing combination of potential threats to the safety and security of the workplace. If you recall in recent incidents over the past month on the topic of workplace violence, that while critical structures are key targets, no type of business was immune.

The ideologues and the imbedded terrorists have now become objects of concern for those of us engaged in conducting threat assessments; evaluating risks and recommending risk abatement measures. Key to these concerns is the free access of these employees, their familiarity with the operations and their knowledge of the company secrets. To combat this threat and to reduce the risk, it would behoove decision makers to become creative in their approach to these potential threats. Just implementing technological resources may be insufficient. Taking proactive measures during the hiring and screening process might identity a potential threat, implementing security guidelines might serve to deter or minimize the threat and educating employees will increase security awareness. Key to this creative approach however, is the collaboration of resources in a synchronized team fashion. The Threat Assessment Team is my recommended creative strategy to minimize the threat while managing the possibilities.

    2. Workplace Security Concerns: People, Premises and Property…

In preventing Workplace Violence in today’s volatile workplace nothing can be taken for granted. While it is the employer’s responsibility to protect the workforce, a predisposed individual is a company’s worst nightmare. The acts of a disgruntled employee can be predictive, while the threat of a robber’s motives cannot anymore than the motivations of the professional ideologue with external grievances that might target a business to emphasize an opposing position. Verifiably evident is the catastrophic capability of the politically motivated threat whose methodical planning may take years. With access and familiarity critical factors in measuring risks, decision makes are encouraged to reconcile the security impact to business disruption and business recovery in the aftermath in terms of proactive and preventive measures during the Threat Assessment Phase. Every business is a target of opportunity and value regardless of type:

Production Plants Power & Light Utilities Dam & Water Purifications Sewer Treatment Telephone and Heating Food & Beverages Sports Facilities Entertainment Centers Suburban Strip & Shopping Malls Hospitals and Treatment Centers High Rise Building Complexes Unprotected Establishments

    3. Ask the Tough Questions. Has Our Company Done a Critical Assessment of Our Business Practices…?

Are the functional needs of security and safety decided by a team; or are they relegated the responsibility of a Security Director, Human Resource Manager, Safety Manager or even Facility Manager? How much thought goes into arriving at a business matrix that factors the security needs against the type of business? Are security budgets based on the offerings of technology devoid of the unique aspects of personnel security as part of the security posture or is there justification for one or the other or both? I pose these additional questions for your consideration.

-Are the Security Plans, Policies and Programs adequate? -Are Threat and Crisis Plans incorporated in training programs? -Do I have an Emergency Evacuation Plan and do employees know their roles? -Are the Homeland Security Protective Measures integrated in the Security Plans? -Do I have knowledge or familiarity with the police and hospital response plans? -Is the company prepared to handle a Bomb Threat? -Are my mailroom and mail handling procedures adequate? -Does the Personnel Security Plan address the myriad of concerns including travel and VIP Security? -Is Counter-terrorism factored into my Workplace Violence Prevention Plan? -Whose responsibility is it to coordinate Security Awareness Training? -How do I organize a Threat Assessment Team? -Am I relying on the police and the response time or do I have a plan? -Is Workplace Violence a threat to your business in the event of business disruption and continuity?

    4. Security the Business Matrix…

Merely appointing a security chief and purchasing security technology without the essential critical assessment or evaluation of your business situation is not employing the best security strategy. Collaborating of resources and synchronizing the plans are positive steps to take in developing a business matrix that drives the security strategy. No longer can the decision maker delegate the security function as a separate and apart responsibility without having any input into the strategy, philosophy and objective of the security plans. The assumption we make about the investment against intangible benefits of a proactive or preventive security policy having no immediate impact on the Return on the Investment (ROI) must die a quick death. A critical assessment of your business practices will clearly provide an appreciable and measurable business matrix to motivate application of this philosophy in the Threat Assessment Phase.

Your Customer is Not a Statistic

    November 29th, 2009

When a customer walks into your office, you want to make sure they feel welcome, you want to treat your customer as though they are a piece of gold, and not as a statistic.

Have you ever been standing in a line, and when it comes to your turn to be waited on, the sales associate yells out “next?”

Just thinking about that scenario makes me cringe. It is hardly a way to build a relationship with your customer.

I have been working in sales for more than fifteen years, and I have literally had customers tell me that the most important thing to them is to be appreciated and not treated as a statistic.

Keep this in mind the next time you wait on a customer, instead of yelling “next,” you can politely say, “may I help you Ms. Jones.”

We all have our daily, weekly, and monthly goals that we must meet. And with this pressure applied to our daily work day, it is easy to lose sight of the fact that it is the customer who is the most important thing when it comes to our company’s existence. They are the backbone. Without customers, we cease to exist.

Here are a few tips to ensure that your customer is appreciated by you and your company, and not viewed as just another number in line.

    1. Address Your Customer by Name

When addressing your customer, make sure you call them by name. This will put your relationship with your customer on a personal level, and customers like to know that they are remembered. It gives them a felling of importance with you, and your company.

    2. Don’t Hurry Them Out the Door

The last thing the customer wants is to be hurried out the door. Remember. You are running a business, where people are your greatest asset. You are not on an assembly line manufacturing cars, so don’t treat your customer as though you are.

When you are finished with your customer’s transaction, ask if there is anything else you can do for them, or if they have any questions for you. You could even use this opportunity to ask if you could go over some of your companies products with them, which you feel could benefit them.

The last thing you want to do is get them in and get them out.

    3. Discuss Non-Business Topics

There is more beneath the surface of your customers than just the business that they do with you. People love to talk about themselves, such as their family, their job’s, their pets, their hobbies, etc.
So ask your customer about one of the topics mentioned above, I guarantee they will be delighted to tell you all about it.

This is also a great way to get to know your customer, and build a strong relationship with them.

A strong business relationship is a great opportunity to obtain all of your customer’s business as well as the business of all of their friends and relatives through referrals.

So remember, don’t treat your customer like a statistic, treat them as you would treat one of your friends.
