How to Write Title Tags for Your Web Pages

    December 31st, 2008

When it comes to search engine optimization, the single most important sentence that you will write for your website is the title tag of your main page. If you write it properly then you will have taken a big step towards getting your site well placed in search engine queries for your important keywords.

Before I give you a step-by-step guide to writing title tags, let’s define what they actually are and see why they are important. When you look at a web page in your browser, the writing in the blue strip above browser’s commands (file, edit, view, etc.) is the title tag. On your actual html document the title tag is in the head portion between the notation .

The title tag is important because it “tells” the search engine what the page is about, and in the case of your main page, what your website is all about. I remember back in my school days that we used to take standardized examinations in which we had to read a story and then answer the question: “What would be the best title for this essay?” Choosing a title tag is something like answering this kind of question. You’ve got to pick out the gist of your enterprise and highlight it in a sentence. So, take a look at your web page and get ready to begin, following these steps:

    1. Make sure your three or four most important keywords or keyword phrases appear in the title tag.

The most important words should appear near the beginning of the sentence, and they can be repeated within the sentence for added emphasis. For example if I am offering low-cost web design, then my title tag might look like this:

    2. Leave your branding and sales pitch for another part of the web page.

Although it is a natural tendency to want to put your company name at the beginning of the title tag, you should remember that unless you are very famous like Coca Cola, people are not searching for you. So, put your most important keywords at the front of the title tag, and establish your brand name with your logo and other elements of the web page. If your company name includes your keywords, like our hypothetical Acme Web Design Company, then put it in the title tag, but not necessarily at the beginning

Similarly, the title tag is no place for your sales pitch, so keep out flowery or extraneous adjectives, unless they are actual terms used in searches for your product or service.

    3. Place your geographical or niche-defining term in your title tag.

If you are trying for a top ten or top twenty position for a term such as “web design,” then you are really in for a difficult struggle. However, suppose the Acme Web Design Company is located in Columbus, Ohio. Then instead of attempting the almost impossible task of getting the top rankings for the term “web design,” it would be far better to get a high ranking in the geographical niche using a title tag such “Web Design, Columbus, Ohio: Low Cost Web Design in Columbus, Ohio by The Acme Web Design Company”

    4. The title tag can be longer than you think.

Some guidelines say that the title tag should be no longer than 70 characters. It is true that only the first 70 characters will show in the top bar of the browser, but search engine robots will read the rest of the tag and the search engines will not penalize you for going over the 70 character mark. Take a look at highly ranked sites in heavily competitive categories and you will see examples of long title tags. Write the tag according to your need to get your important words and phrases included in a sentence that best describes what your product or service is about.

    5. Vary the title tags on the inner pages of your website.

Even with a long title tag, it is not possible to highlight all the possible terms which someone might use to find your website. This is not a problem if you make use of the other pages of your website. Instead of simply having a title tag that says “services” our web design firm could highlight “low cost, web design services…” on that page. The “contact” page could be used to emphasize the geographical location once again, and so on. Many websites make the mistake of repeating the same title tag on each of the inner pages of the site. Avoid this and use each of your page’s titles to target important keywords and keyword phrases.

So, take a look at your website’s title tags, and see if you can improve them. The effort that you make will be well rewarded.

    25th Wedding Anniversary Party Ideas

    December 31st, 2008

We know that coming up with 25th anniversary party ideas can be baffling. What type of party do you want to hold? A large party, a small gathering of close friends and associates? We know exactly what you’re thinking: “Where do I begin?” Once you’ve chosen a location to hold the party, you’ll need to call up friends and loved ones. This is important! Let everyone know that you’re sending them an invitation. Confirm everyone’s address. That last thing you want is for your invitations to get returned. Once you’ve got all the information you need, you’re ready to begin shopping for invitations.

Purchasing invitations isn’t a difficult task at all. The only decision that you’ll really need to make is whether you want your invitations store-bought or customized. What’s the difference, you ask? Well, price for starters. Customized invitations can cost a pretty penny. However, they’re excellent, as they come with RSVP cards that can be mailed back to you. Despite this, you can always add an RSVP on a store-bought invitation. Sure, they don’t look as fancy–but it’s just an invitation! As long as the invitation provides ample space for information you should be fine.

Let all your friends and loved-one’s know they’re going to party hard at your anniversary party. Tell them, “wear comfortable shoes, ladies! You’re going to dance the night away!” Now you have to fulfill your promise to everyone. Hire a fantastic DJ or live band to provide entertainment for your special evening. Watch the dance floor come alive when fun songs and modern music are played.

Don’t worry, you’re friends will have an excellent time. But this night is all about you and your spouse. Check any worries you may have at the door. Kick your shoes off and mingle with your guests. Make sure that you have plenty of fun games and conversational topics. We’re certain that you’ll have plenty of harmlessly funny stories to tell after twenty five years of marriage. With that in mind, make a toast to the one you love.

A twenty-fifth anniversary party is also an excellent opportunity to renew your vows. Perhaps you’d like new friends and loved ones to witness the beautiful ceremony. If they couldn’t be there the first time around, this party will make for a great opportunity. Saying “I do” all over again will rekindle all the love you have for one another. You may even feel twenty-five years younger before the night is over! If you’re ready to fall in love all over again, you might want to take the plunge. Whatever it is you decide to do at your wedding anniversary party, make it a memorable experience that you’ll treasure forever.

Refinance Home Mortgage Loan with Poor Credit – Lower Monthly Payments with a Fixed Rate Mortgage

    December 29th, 2008

With poor credit you can still lower your monthly mortgage payments by
refinancing with a fixed rate home loan. Not only will your payments be
smaller, but you will have peace of mind of a predictable mortgage. You
can also pull out part of your equity to help pay off bills and improve
    your credit standing.

Lower Monthly Payments – Even With Bad Credit

You can still lower your monthly mortgage payments even if you have
late or missed payments in your credit history. Working with a subprime
lender, you can reduce your monthly mortgage bill in two ways.

The first is to find a low rate home loan. Searching online will help
you find some of these better mortgage deals. With more efficient
processes, online lenders are able to offer better rates than traditional
financing offices. Comparison shopping will also help you find the lowest
    rates.

The other choice is to reduce your monthly payments by extending your
loan terms. Fortunately, with a fixed rate mortgage you can determine
precisely when you want your home loan paid off. There’s no worry over
unexpected rate hikes, pushing out your loan period. Instead, you choose
how much you can afford to pay.

    Reducing Your Other Monthly Bills

Pulling out your equity to pay off other bills can also help with your
cash flow issues. By eliminating your high interest debt, you reduce
your interest costs and improve your credit score. Consolidating your
bills also gives you just one monthly bill to deal with.

With the savings from refinancing, you can either make larger principal
payments to reduce your debt or build up your savings. In either case,
you will be improving your credit score.

    Planning For The Future

Try using one of ABC Loan Guide’s Recommended Poor Credit Mortgage Refinance Companies.

To get on the right track, give yourself at least a few hours to
investigate lenders. Request loan estimates and go over the details. The more
informed you are about the financing offers, the better choice you can
make. Also, make sure that you don’t have any fees for early repayment.
That way, when your credit improves, you can refinance for conventional
rates without getting stung by fees.

A Groom’s Guide to Wedding Planning

    December 29th, 2008

When it comes to weddings, the focus is usually on the bride. Everyone thinks of it as her special day, that event she’s been looking forward to since she was a child and the time when she’ll be the center of attention as she embarks on a new life. But what about the groom? It’s his day too, and one that he should plan just as carefully as the bride. Ideally it will be a once-in-a-lifetime occasion for both bride and groom, so they should share the planning and the enjoyment of that magical day equally!

Future grooms, follow these steps as you prepare for your wedding to make it a truly special occasion:

    1. Select the Groomsmen Choosing the groomsmen is an important task and should be done at least a year prior to the wedding. (Plan to have one usher for every fifty guests.) Once you’ve settled on who the groomsmen will be, choose their outfits. Later you will also want to buy gifts for the men in your wedding party. These could include cuff links, a money clip, a flask, or another gift that will commemorate the occasion with a touch of class.

    2. Make your Guest List You and your bride will put together separate guest lists, so think about who you want to invite. Be sure to consider family, friends, and co-workers, and consult with close relatives to confirm that you haven’t left anyone out.

    3. Reserve the Wedding Location Don’t hesitate to take the initiative in finding possible sites for the ceremony and/or the reception. Your fiancee will appreciate your efforts since this can be an overwhelming, time-consuming task! Discuss with her what your budget and style are and start searching. The sooner you find the right place and reserve, the more likely you are to get the date you want.

    4. Plan the Honeymoon Make your bride happy by researching honeymoon destinations and presenting her with some detailed itineraries of possible trips. She’ll know she’s picked a winner if you do your honeymoon homework and come prepared with good travel ideas!

    5. Order your Wedding Bands Don’t leave this until the last minute. Go with your bride to pick them out and get fitted so that you have them safe in hand in time for the wedding. Also, leave some time between the time you receive them and the wedding day in case you need a last-minute adjustment. If the jeweler gets the sizing wrong you’ll need time to fix it.

    6. Get your Marriage License Depending on where you live this can be a lengthy process that will include blood tests and possibly other medical tests. Begin researching early to determine exactly what is required in your state and how long you should expect the process to take.

So remember, your wedding day isn’t just for her – it’s YOUR special day too! Make it an occasion you’ll always cherish by planning ahead and following these simple steps.

    Imagination

    December 28th, 2008

Hold on to your hat, you are about to take an incredible ride!! If used properly, imagination is one of the greatest tools that you can use. In your imagination, anything is possible and there is absolutely nothing that cannot be imagined. The fantasy book authors, who have spent hours in fantasy places, creating every detail and every aspect, have imagined some of the greatest and wildest places in fiction. All kinds of characters,
people, and creatures have been created to inhabit these fictional places.

Whole kingdoms and whole planets have been invented for you to explore. Movies, plays, books, television shows, media events, stage shows, theme parks, dvds,
audio cassettes, board games, electronic games, puzzles,
toys, and sometimes a combination of several of these have
all been vividly imagined and created in every detail.
When you enter into these kingdoms through the
author’s guidance, you also explore them through your
imagination, so that no two experiences are exactly alike.

You can use your imagination for great adventures, great
encounters, fantastic stories, love stories, poetry,
building a special house or special property, designing or
inventing something that has never been done before, or
making something that already exists even better. From
the tiniest piece of intricate machinery, to the most
colossal awesome machine, it was first imagined in someone’s
mind. She or he believed in that vision enough to figure out how to make it a reality and then she or he worked diligently
until her or his imagination was taking place in the earthly realm.
Thomas Edison invented the light bulb, and electricity.

Alexander Graham Bell invented the telephone. Charles Drew
found a way to preserve and store blood, and he created
    the world’s first blood bank.
Frederick McKinley Jones invented a way to add sound to
movies, which revolutionized the movie industry; he also
created cooling units for trucks and trains to keep food
cool in transportation. All through their own imagination
and work that went on before them. They imagined something in their minds first and they worked diligently to bring that imagination into the physical realm. They
were not deterred because it didn’t work the first or second
or even third time; the whole process, or the end product,
was pictured very clearly in their minds.

    Harry Potter was a
character invented and nurtured in one woman’s mind, now she
has written several books about him and there have been
several movies created about that one character and all his adventures.
Imagination lets you fly above the trees and soar
out over the water. It allows you to go further than is possible or ever dreamed of before. You can talk with kings and queens, you can go into the past or the
future, you can speak in foreign languages, or you can
invent a language. You can create brand new colors,
you can go to another planet, or down under the water.

Your imagination can be bright, big, dark or
foreboding. Where there is light there is dark, where there is up there is down, male and female, good and evil.

Everything has a dimension and substance in your
imagination. Try it yourself and see
where it takes you. Allow yourself a rich and
active imagination. But don’t get stuck in the
fearsome side of your imagination; if you created it in
your mind you can un-create it too, and you can create
good and positive protectors in your mind to take care
of you. You can create a new picture in your mind to
replace a piece of imagination that may have scared you.
You can change the focus and change the outcome all with
a thought. You don’t have to settle for the same thing in
your mind all the time; you can change your thoughts
at any time. You can create the life that you imagine,
right now, with your thoughts and actions. Every new
thought can progress you towards your dreams.

The world is wide open for you, my dear. Just imagine
what you can do, where you can go, who you can meet, and
    then enjoy the journey.

    Three Super-Fast, No-Equipment-Required, Frequency-Raising Techniques

    December 27th, 2008

The key to feeling better and being more spiritually attuned is always to raise your frequency. Here are some instant frequency boosters that will have you flying high in no time!

    Palm-Rub Sevens

Place your palms together and rub back and forth, seven rubs. Once you are used to what seven rubs feels like, speed up your rubbing so that one set of seven takes only a second or two. Pay attention to the sensations in other parts of your body while doing thistingles! Do multiple sets of this whenever you feel the need to rev up your frequency. Seven sets of seven really works spectacularly!

    Infinity Bridge

Close your eyes and imagine that there is an infinity symbol (a horizontal figure 8) bridging your left and right brain hemispheres, with one loop on each side and the crossover point in the center where the corpus callosum would be. See the symbol lit up with energy, and see this energy using the symbol as a kind of track. Run the energy along the lines of the symbol rapidly, as many times as feels right to you. Your eyes will probably want to sweep along with the energy as it goes around and around. Remember to breathe!

    Quick Mini-Meditation

With your eyes closed, face forward, roll your eyes downward toward your chin and hold (unless you do regular eye exercises, you will feel a mild strain). Gradually roll them upward (should take about 10 seconds), stopping when they are pointing toward your 3rd Eye (center of your forehead). This, too, will cause a mild, and not unpleasant, strain. Hold for 10 seconds, and release eyes to relaxed position. You will be a little spacey immediately after doing this, so it’s probably not wise do it at a stoplight when you’re driving!

And always, always stay super-well hydrated. You are an electromagnetic entity and being hydrated is necessary for attainment of higher frequency and the health, joy, and fulfillment it offers.

A Little Magic in the Middle of the Desert

    December 26th, 2008

Bagdad Cafe is an oasis in the desert. That is if you like your oasis’s in the mold of run down gas stations/cafes/motels where it’s tough to find a real cup of joe. What you will find it stocked with is a ready band of eccentric characters willing to make you not only forget the desolate surroundings but even appreciate it.

One of those characters is a German tourist named Jasmin (Marianne Sgebrecht). She had ambled away from her husband in the middle of the Mojave and found refuge at the Bagdad. Initially there was a bit of friction with Brenda (CCH Pounder) who runs the Bagdad Gas and Oil Cafe. But gradually Brenda begins to appreciate her.

In fact, Jasmin’s exotic spirit infuses magic into the dusty lifeless Bagdad both literally and figuratively. She begins to perform magic that brings in truckers from miles around and she forms solid relationships with the Bagdad regulars including a laid back artist played by Jack Palance.

What is spiritual about this movie? Jasmin was fearless. She was like an alien on another planet who in short order not only learned to blend in and live with the inhabitants but became indispensable to them. In a sense she became the heart and soul of Bagdad. Her easy manner of bonding with others may cause you to reflect about the friendships in your life. Is there a group of people who consider you indispensable? If not, what might you do to create one?

    Invitation Anatomy 101 – Typical Components – Part 1 of 3

    December 26th, 2008

“What am I supposed to have in my invitation?” This is one of the most common questions I get asked. The answer is quite simple: Anything! It’s true that convention doesn’t quite apply anymore with respect to what ‘goes’ for an invitation these days. That being said, there are a lot of components in the most common invitation styles. I should caution that there are literally thousands of options available – some a lot more unconventional and some are even bizarre. For the sake of brevity, I’ll keep my breakdown constrained to the more common components and options used in invitations today (as about 85-90% of invitation orders inevitably consist of these).

I’ve broken down my Invitation Anatomy 101 into two lessons: Typical Components and Optional (or Additional Components). The first I’ll describe here:

    Typical Components

    1) The Outer Envelope

    • Anchors your ‘invitation package’. This is your guest’s first impression of your wedding or event at the mailbox!
    • It is a good idea to have your return address printed on the back flap of the envelope in the same lettering as your invitation.
    • Your guest’s address may be handwritten neatly or written using the services of a calligrapher.
    • Outer Envelopes should be reasonably sturdy and presented to your post office (fully stuffed) to determine exact postage prior to stamping and mailing.

    2) The Inner Envelope

    • Historically, inner envelopes were created to provide added protection to the contents of letters. That is, the outer envelope often suffered quite a bit of wear and tear between destinations, so the inner envelope would preserve the contents while identifying the recipient if the original address information wore away.
    • The need for an inner envelope no longer exists, but the romantic tradition remains. Nowadays, the inner envelope identifies only the invitees within the household (e.g. Mr. & Mrs. Wilhelm Schneider). No address is written on the inner envelope. All contents of your invitation package are placed inside the inner envelope. Usually the inner envelope back flap is left folded, but unsealed.
    • On a side note, I’ve found that amongst my clients only a small handful a year actually end up ordering inner envelopes. The decline in the use of Inner Envelopes is primarily due to the durability and material quality of custom invitation outer envelopes. This makes Inner Envelopes both expensive and redundant.

    3) The Invitation

    • Obviously, the most essential component of your invitation package. If your invitation is a folded card, all other components should be placed inside the invitation. If this is not possible, or your invitation consist of a one-sided card, place all other components on top of the invitation. The goal here is to make the invitation package as neat and tidy as possible.
    • As mentioned, anything goes when it comes to invitations. However, some typical features of a custom or custom-inspired invitation may include the following:
    • Outer Card – Heavier weighted stock that envelops or mattes the invitation contents. This is the foundation of your invitation. The outer card can be anything from a plain card backing, to a pocket-fold enclosure to a multi-panel pocketed fold-out!
    • Outer Embellishments – Known as the finishing touches on the ‘exterior’ of the invitation. This can be a ribbon tie, wax seal, monogram, matted graphic, pictures, foil stamped image, name, slogan, clasp, etc.
    • Inner Card(s) – Usually, an inner card contains your invitation wording. There are hundreds of inner card options including, vellums, vellum overlays, mounted card, bound card, embossed cards, imported stationeries, decorative papers, embellished card or paper, folded cards, loose cards, etc.

    4) The RSVP, Response, or Reply Card

    • Just as important as the invitation, the size and expense of your event is largely determined by the number of accepted/returned RSVP cards.
    • RSVP cards usually contain a blank line where the guest fills in his/her name and indicates the number of persons attending from his/her party. Usually an addressed and pre-stamped envelope is included to encourage your guest to respond as soon as possible.
    • RSVP cards can contain other information such as multiple dining options which must be chosen, or spaces for comments, requests, feedback etc.
      • TIP: Lightly number each RSVP card with a corresponding guest/invitation list. That way, if any RSVP card is returned blank without the sender’s information, you’ll know exactly which guest it is.

    • RSVP sizes are usually much smaller than invitations and contain an appropriately-sized return envelope. However, there is a trend towards more oversized RSVP cards (though still smaller than the invitation size).

Congratulations, now that you’ve completed the first lesson, you’re ready for the “Invitation Anatomy 101Optional Components” articles now.

Real Estate Marketing Tips — Using Testimonials

    December 24th, 2008

Genuine testimonials can add credibility to a real estate marketing program. When the testimonial comes from a known source, like a neighbor, that power increases tenfold. So how do you go about using testimonials?

    An easy but effective formula:

    1. Place a testimonial at the top of your piece, in headline fashion.

    2. Followed up with your message, giving specifics of the transaction — the number of interested buyers that came through, the time it took to get a contract. (Or other relevant data from a buyer agent transaction).

    3. Then offer to help the reader in the same way.

    4. End with your offer and call-to-action.

    Create a testimonial “harvesting” system.

The easier your testimonial gathering system is, the more likely you’ll do it on a regular basis. Put something down on paper. Map it out. Make it a point to solicit a testimonial from each client X-number of days after the transaction.

Follow your timeline consistently. And be sure you make it clear how you will use the testimonial (simply by using the phrase “in my marketing efforts”).

Use your client’s full name and address whenever possible. When you write a testimonial-request email or letter (or call them on the phone), ask if you can include their full name and address. Explain that it makes the testimonial more believable than something signed by “R. P. from Houston.”

For example, if you lived at 344 Elm Street, Houston, TX, which of the following testimonials would capture more of your attention:

One signed by J. Riley, Houston, TX?

Or one signed by John and Beth Riley, 357 Elm Street, Houston, TX?

Send thank-you cards or a small gift to testimonial providers. This will boost your referral rate. Besides, it’s just plain nice (and there’s plenty of room for nice in today’s business world).

    Use the complete testimonial.

Open your newspaper up to the movies section and you’ll see testimonials that look like this:

    “…great…”

    “…superb…”

    “…astounding…”

Besides the fact that these snippets are worthless, what’s the first thing they bring to mind? If you’re like me, you might say they look like they’ve been taken out of context by a tricky writer. Use the full testimonial, or at least the full sections that are most applicable.

    Summary

Testimonials carry more power than anything you might say about yourself. Create a simple harvesting system and follow it consistently. Be honest about your intentions. Send a thank-you card or small gift.
