Laser Engraving Art
October 12th, 2009Engraving is a truly beautiful art which has traditionally been done by hand using tools. However, the process of engraving using tools can wear down the tool, in effect necessitating a replacement of the tool. Engraving using lasers does not require that any part of the tool needs to be replaced in order to continue engraving, which makes it a more effective process. A laser which is attached to a computer that holds the information of the design to be engraved burns out the design in many surfaces quickly and precisely. An engraving laser can also engrave as the laser turns the material being engraved into its vaporized form upon contact, which creates very little residue left behind.
Laser engraving is used to engrave many different surfaces. Wood is an excellent surface for laser engraving, as are metals, and plastics. Laser engraving can be used to mark or write brand information on a wooden box or directly onto a plastic product. Engraving with a laser can also be used as a technique for more decorative purposes, such as burning out a beautifully designed decoration. The designs which are created using this engraving technique can be so beautiful that it is sometimes used for creating pieces of fine art.
Laser engraving has also proven to be a very effective tool for jewelers who in the past engraved the metal jewelry by hand. Engraving jewelry using a laser is a much faster process with a more precise turnout than the longer process and less consistent turnout of hand engraving. The laser is more precise, and can engrave smaller and detailed words and designs with more precise detail and less effort for the engraver. Laser engravers are made in smaller sizes so they can fit on a desk inside of a jewelry store.
